Determining 100+ vs. 50–99 Registered Hours on Alberta Claim

ChildFriendly automatically determines whether a child is reported in the 100+ hours or 50–99 hours category for the Alberta government’s monthly claim based on the details of each registration and the number of days that fall within the reporting month.

How It Works

The system calculates registered hours (not actual hours), for the purpose of Alberta claims reporting, using two primary factors:

  • The program schedule (start and end times) plus rates available in the program

  • The specific days selected on the registration

In ChildFriendly, programs are set up with specific available days and associated rates. These rates determine how registered hours are calculated. For example, if a child is registered under a 2-day rate (called a part time rate in ChildFriendly), ChildFriendly will only include the selected days for that speicifc child (e.g., Monday and Tuesday) in the calculation.

In contrast, a full-time rate automatically uses all available days and times defined in the program. Since a single program can include multiple rate options (2-day, 3-day, full-time, etc.), ChildFriendly determines the final calculation by referencing the child’s specific registration record—identifying the selected program, rate, and, the specific days for which they are registered to attend.

Example:

  • Program hours: 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM (10.5 hours/day)
  • Selected days: Mondays only
  • June has 5 Mondays → 5 × 10.5 = 52.5 hours → 50–99 hours
  • July has 4 Mondays → 4 × 10.5 = 42 hours → 0–49 hours

The Claims Report

Now that you understand how the system determines a child's Registered Hours, you can hop over to our Reports Module -> Region Reports -> Monthly claims and easily complete your claim with the Alberta Government.

Key Points to Remember

  • The child's registration record (full-time vs. specific days ie. Mon & Tues) controls how many days are considered
  • The program hours set the number of hours per eligible day
  • The calendar month determines how many of those eligible days exist in that month
  • Attendance records are not required to determine the claim hours catgeory — it is based on potential availability, or registerd hours, not actual attendance
